Little Longer, Little Stronger
-Vyshnavi Krishna Koneru
(Vaishnavi is 15 yrs old and recently lost her Mother of Covid. She stood beside her mother until she died. This a Tribute to her Mother.)
Take my breath, feed it to your lungs
Only to live a little longer and love me a little stronger
Take my blood, bones live with your son
Only to live a little longer and love me a
little stronger
Take my time add to your own
Only to live a little longer and love me a little stronger
Take my strength and don’t be lone
Only to live a little longer and love me a little stronger
Take my body and thoughts cause after all I belong to you
Only to live a little longer and love me a little stronger
Take every inch of me cause it’s made by you and now don’t leave me blue
Only to live a little longer and love me a little stronger
*****
“Little Longer, Little Stronger” is a heart wrenching poem. The speaker in the poem offers the dying mother her own breath, strength and longevity of life wishing that she would live longer and love her stronger . It is not surprising if a mother is ready to sacrifice her health, wealth and even life to save her progeny . But here it is the child who is willing to give every inch of her to the one who gave her life. The intensity of her feeling compels the reader to empathise and share her misery. Vyshnavi krishna Koneru has the potential to excel as a good poet.
Thank you. I will make efforts to become a better poet.
