Poems of Aduri Satyavathi Devi

Poem-32

The Adieu Song

Telugu Original: Aduri Satyavathi Devi

English Translation: NS Murthy

Whenever
Friendships sing adieus waving hands,
Wounds rake up inflammable passions.
The deciduous smiles and tears
Shed on the platforms,
And under the tree shades in bus-stands,
Travel through the post bags again
Playing hide and seek with memories.

Whenever
Friendships bid good-bye
Wounds hum commiserate tunes.
The broken strains on the melting sitars
And the rhymes written on the ‘Zari’ moonlight,
Sleep cosily in the baby-bed of dreams.
If one wakes up suddenly in the dead of night
And looks back once
Wounds look like snow-capped bens.

At the doorstep of twigs-of-thought
Wants queue-up
For the chirp of a bird,
For the mate missed so long ago.

Friendships take leave
And walk away.
But wounds
Swelled up to oceans
Wait….. Forever. . .
